Being located on the second step of Dong Nai River, 250km from Ho Chi Minh city in the direction of the North - East and 45km from Da Lat in the direction of the South - West, Dai Ninh hydropower plant (300MW) was commenced on May 10th, 2003 by the ODA loan of the Japanese Government. The plant has officially been put into operation since the early of 2008. In the past 5 years, the plant has produced 5,6 billions kWh with high availability factor and safety.
The main task of Dai Ninh hydropower is to supply electricity for the national power system. Moreover, it annually provides 770 million m3 of water from Dong Nai river valley for agricultural production and against desertification for thousands of hectares of agricultural land in Bac Binh district, Binh Thuan province – the area with the lowest average rainfall of the country. Water discharged from Dai Ninh hydropower is also a water source of Bac Binh hydropower (33MW). The Dai Ninh hydropower project has improved the climate of the region and created nice landscape and favorable conditions for ecological tourism development . In addition, the company contributes tax and forest environment service fee with a total of 140 billions every year. This is a significant financial source of the local budget.
The development orientations of the company are: Ensuring safe and reliable commercial operation of Dai Ninh hydropower’s units to supply electricity for the national power system; Promoting the spirit of initiative, creativity, design and other strengths to serve the production needs of the company; Enhancing consult, supervision services; Installation of testing equipment, adjustment, performance of operation and maintenance services for hydropower plants in the whole country; Exploiting advantages of the company on ecological tourism service development, forest economy and investing in other power projects, contributing to the development of electricity industry in particular and the country in general.
