Continue improving environmental and social impact at Da Mi solar Power Project

In order to assess impact of Da Mi Solar Power Project one year after construction date, Asian Development Bank (ADB) assigned its expert to support DHD Company to complete the Initial Environmental and Social Examination Report (IESE) in an appraisal trip from 23 to 27 September 2019.

ADB supports DHD to complete IESE Report

During the time working at DHD Company, Mr. Ian Bryson - Environmental and Social Expert from ADB has inspected Da Mi solar power plant, 110 kV transmission lines and some households affected by the project to check the result of environmental protection and community development executed by DHD basing on Finance Document of the project.

The examination result is an essential condition so that ADB can consider to execute disbursement for the project. According to Mr. Ian Bryson, DHD has executed many items related to environmental protection and community development at project area during construction time. The Da Mi solar project has contributed to solve work demand at project area during construction time and created a beautiful landscape in operation stage. However, DHD should prepare much detailed plan to improve condition at Da Mi solar power plant including security, safety, environmental protection and community development, etc. The result of Environmental and social Impact Assessment and Corrective Action Plan in operation stage was supplemented into IESE Report for ADB approval before executing disbursement for Da Mi solar power project.

ADB’s Expert checking water environment at Da Mi solar power plant

By ADB’s inspection trip, DHD achieves more experiences related to environmental and social impact assessment based on international standard. According to ADB, Facility Agreement for any project always includes conditions for environmental protection and community development. Therefore, a project funded by ADB will not only ensure profit for Sponsor but also bring several practical benefits for the local community.

The Da Mi solar power project (47.5MWp) was built at Da Mi hydropower reservoir. Up to present, it is considered as highest installed capacity floating solar power project in Vietnam and in South East Asia. The construction works for the project was commenced in August 2019 and the power plant has started commercial operation since 01 June 2019. After nearly 4 months of operation, Da Mi solar power plant has produced more than 20 million kWh. Operation parameters show that solar PV panel arrays operate stably with high efficiency and adapt to expectation of technical design.
